From Our Past

You'll find you share a lot in common with us folks at BCIL.
Sure, there have been times when you have been moved by some exciting idea on living, and not merely making a living. Maybe you never did anything about it, caught as you have been in more important things like work. We did. We took a spectrum of simple ideas to make homes (not houses), to create good neighbours and communities (not housing colonies). We thought of the need to rekindle in our kids, and in ourselves, that old sense of wonder and of reflection on the spectacle of a flower in bloom... of the awesome pattern a starlit night can weave... of the daily drama the sun stages of rising and sinking in a resplendent sky... Of a neighbourhood, and a spirit of community living, of friendship and warmth that have been endangered by a bleak life played out in grey apartments amid a faceless city's bustle.
We thought of homes that represent a value system that needs sorely to be revived, conserved, enriched. Our first initiative was to set up Trans Indus, a self-sustained residential enclave to the south of Bangalore. We have worked on more projects after that. All our work so far has been designed to make the place a model of appropriate technology employed in practical application in an urban environment promoting sustainability.
