Greening BCIL Townsend

Adding value to a habitat
We have achieved this through:
. Choice of plant profile mostly endemic species
. Avoiding formal landscaping
. Using shrub plants
. Protecting existing flora, avifauna and reptiles.

Tree species
The avenue tree species at the campus are selected to offer a profile of medicinal values while being useful to the soil in fixing nitrogen . eg: leguminous species like pongamea or Gliricidia; some with potent medicinal properties like Neem, Amla, Haritaki, Vibhitaki. Many of them are known for their beautiful flowers like the Cassia, Tabubia, Jacaranda and Lagerstroemia [known as the Queen of Flowers]. We have a collection of 25-30 species of medicinal and aromatic plants. We have plans to have a small medicinal park with red listed species.
